What is Laser Hair Removal?

Heading-Underline

Laser Hair Removal is the practice of using heat energy to get rid of unwanted hair. A light beam is emitted from the laser and converted into heat energy. This technique damages the hair follicles beneath the skin, hindering future hair growth. A single treatment session will help delay hair from regrowing, and multiple treatments can stop the growth altogether. The results improve with each treatment, and they can easily be monitored with before and after photos. Maintenance sessions may be necessary, depending on your skin type and hair color. Even so, laser hair removal is the most effective solution for becoming hair-free.

What Hair can be Removed?

Heading-Underline

Laser hair removal technology has advanced to a level where hair can be removed from nearly everywhere on the body, safely and effectively. This non-invasive procedure offers a long-term solution for unwanted hair, making it a popular choice among individuals seeking smooth, silky skin. The most commonly requested treatment areas include the legs, arms, underarms, face, neck, and bikini line. With the help of laser hair removal, you can achieve silky, hair-free skin and enjoy the confidence that comes with it. Say goodbye to daily grooming routines and hello to effortless, long-lasting smoothness.

Is Laser Hair Removal Treatment Safe?

Heading Underline

Laser hair removal is both safe and efficient for all skin types. Advancements in laser technology mean that risky treatment procedures are a thing of the past. The lasers we use are state-of-the-art with registered trademarks. In rare cases, some patients experience minor irritation or redness of the skin. However, these symptoms are typically linked to over-exposure to sunlight before or after treatment. Before starting the process, one of our nurse practitioners will review your personal and medical history to ensure that there will be no complications.

Does it Hurt?

Heading Underline

Laser hair treatment is a pain-free way to remove body hair, even in sensitive areas. You may feel a slight warming sensation in the area being treated as the laser works its magic on the hair follicles, rendering them useless. This warming sensation is often offset by a cooling device built into the laser aperture or through a pre-applied cooling gel. You can rest assured that we will take every measure to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the process and after the treatment has been completed.

What Areas of the Body are Right for Hair Removal?

Heading-Underline

Unwanted hair can safely be removed from nearly every area of the body. The most popular areas for laser hair removal are facial hair, upper lip hair, and the bikini line. However, it is also possible to remove larger areas of hair, such as on the lower legs and other body parts. The only areas where laser treatment is not recommended are the eyelids and the surrounding skin. If you have tattoos, the nurse may suggest forgoing those areas, but this will be determined during treatment planning.

Does it Work on All Hair Colors?

Heading Underline

One of the best things about laser hair removal is its effectiveness, regardless of skin type or hair color. The process works best when there is a significant contrast between the skin tone and the color of the hair. For instance, those with light skin and dark hair are the perfect candidates for treatment. This is because certain hair colors, especially brown and black hair, absorb the light from the laser better than others. However, do not be deterred if you have blond, white, or red hair, as laser advancements have made it possible to remove any color of hair. And don’t worry if you have tanned skin or a darker skin tone, laser treatment is still a viable option.

How Long Does the Process Take?

Heading Underline

Laser hair removal is a relatively quick process, especially considering the countless hours it takes shaving and plucking to remove unwanted body hair. The duration of the session depends on the size of the area in which the hair is being removed. Small areas, like the upper lip, can be completed in minutes, while larger areas, such as the lower legs, may take up to an hour. As mentioned, this is much faster than removing the hair manually, and of course, it’s permanent. Typically, clients undergo two to six treatment sessions before the hair is eliminated.

The number of sessions will depend on where the hair is being removed. Hair grows faster in certain areas of the body, so some areas will require more sessions than others. For example, hair on the upper lips grows rapidly, thus requiring fewer visits and less time than what is required for the legs or back. Patients can usually return for subsequent treatments every eight to twelve weeks until all the hair follicles have been removed.

Preparing for the Procedure

Heading-Underline

As with any medical treatment, preparation is very important. Once you have decided on laser hair removal, you will meet with a healthcare specialist to create a personalized treatment plan that meets your needs. They will review your personal history and medical history to help ensure that there are no issues in moving forward with the treatment. It is especially important to disclose any skin disorders that could affect the outcome of the process or any prior hair removal treatments.

It is also important to let the practitioner know if you take any blood-thinning medications, like aspirin or acetaminophen.

During the preparation phase, you will also discuss the areas in which you would like hair removed, the amount of time it will take, and the number of sessions needed for complete hair removal. It’s also advised to take before and after photos to monitor the progress.

Our laser hair removal platform requires some hair growth, so we ask that you do not shave for several days before. Lastly, you will be asked to avoid other forms of hair removal, such as waxing, plucking, electrolysis, and nipping, for roughly four weeks before treatment.

The Hair Removal Process

Heading Underline

The practitioner will utilize a small handheld laser to remove unwanted hair during the procedure. The beam from this laser passes through the skin and damages the hair follicles that lie beneath. You may feel a warm sensation as the laser penetrates the skin, but it is a painless process. The laser even comes with a built-in device that cools the skin after it has passed over the area, which helps to offset any discomfort. If the laser does not have a cooling tip, the nurse will apply a cooling gel. The entire process should take between five minutes and one hour, relative to the size of the area that requires hair removal.

Post Procedure Treatment

Heading Underline

Immediately after the treatment process is finished, you may notice some redness and minor swelling, but these symptoms will go away within a few hours for most people. Applying an ice pack to the affected area is a great way to relieve any further discomfort. Avoiding sunlight and tanning for several weeks is usually recommended. However, the practitioner may have specific instructions, such as wearing sunscreen.

How Long Will I Be Hair Free?

Heading-Underline

During the course of your treatment, you will continue to see hair grow. A good portion of this will be hair that has not been treated yet, others will come from regrowth. As the course of your treatment continues, the hair growth will diminish until there is no growth. Once completed (usually, we suggest a series of 6 treatments), your laser hair removal treatment will prevent regrowth for quite some time. Each individual is different, and results may vary, but for treatments performed on the body (arms, legs, underarms) it is not uncommon to provide permanent results. Any hair that does grow back should be sparse and very fine. For treatments done on the face, the results do not tend to be permanent but do last for up to 10 years. Any regrowth can be solved by a simple follow-up treatment.

What About Do-It-Yourself Lasers?

Heding-Underline(pink)

The market is flooded with do-it-yourself laser hair removal kits, but buyers, beware. Most of these lasers are difficult to use, and the result is usually only a slight reduction in hair. Furthermore, these lasers are labeled for cosmetic use rather than medical use, which means that the Food and Drug Administration does not hold them to the same safety standards. The “cosmetic” designation also means that they are not nearly as effective in removing hair as devices labeled for medical purposes. If you decide to opt for the do-it-yourself method, follow the instructions closely because lasers can be harmful, especially to the eyes, if not properly used.
